The Politics of Fear

Yaribu Malik-Al Din Damu

Our society has bought the hoax of Fear and the media has perpetuated it for the last fifty years. Generally, we do not question the sensational headlines that terrify us and feed our insecurities. This process has been very costly to our moral make up as a people.

The media creates hopelessness which causes us to react impulsively, looking for quick fixes and artificial control experiences. We falsely invest in our legislators to protect us. But they operate on a selfish interest base that helps them control a fearful constituency. We have allowed the Politics of Fear to imprison people in California.

Wait a minute! One hundred and seventy-two thousand of our own. Wow!

The media programs the public into thinking that makes them safe. There is no forethought to the long-term consequences of warehousing the "under class." It is the systematic disenfranchisement of the poor. It is estimated that by the year 2012 there will be a quarter million incarcerated in the "Golden" state of California. Unless we immediately begin to put the bulk of the prison budget into rehabilitation , this modern apartheid will completely consume the oppressed class.

We have allowed the politics of fear to create laws that are revengeful, deceitful, sinister and immoral. We need to heal the social dynamics that cause people to misbehave in ways that harm themselves and others.

Locking up the oppressed class under the disguise of fighting crime is the amerikkkan hoax. We have been grossly manipulated by our legislators and their media tool. Wake up and start by questioning the long term consequences of massive population imprisonment.
