Gladiator fights turn the prison yard
into a shooting gallery
In 10 years of operation, Corcoran guards have shot and killed 7
inmates.
9 months after opening, guards shot and wounded 3 inmates in 8
weeks.
Shootings ruled justified claiming the intent was to protect an inmate
or guard.
Guards have not used physical restraint or non-lethal weapons to stop
a fight.
8 Corcoran officers have been indicted for arranging prison fights for
recreation.
4 guards charged in the death of Preston Tate.
Not one top administrator has been charged with any crime.
Department of Correction officials continue to deny the prison was
mismanaged.
FBI was called in to investigate when the California Department of
Corrections found all of the abuse allegations groundless.
Torture, abuse and corruption reign at
Corcoran
When a group of transferring inmates (allegedly members of the Crips)
arrived, they were grabbed by the testicles, thrown off the bus, manhandled
and beaten by guards. That incident led to 2 firings, 4 demotions and 10
suspensions.
Officer James Townsend was convicted of assaulting an inmate who was
held down while his genitals were zapped with a Taser.
Officer Roscoe Pondexter was fired for dragging an inmate from his cell.
A corps of officers wearing black masks abused inmates during cell
searches.
Officer Laurie Jones was convicted of running an illegal pyramid game
in several Central Valley prisons.
3 associate wardens were intimate with female subordinates on prison
grounds.
