Let us liver together in peace.
I've always tried to be politically active, and aside from the inherent satisfaction of such pursuits, you meet all kinds of interesting people.

Chopped Liver Productions was born way back in 1978 when I, Janice Leber, then a bored announcer working the midnight shift at an automated "beautiful music" station in Lebanon, Oregon, started fooling around with the unused equipment. The silly tapes were supposed to be for the amusement of my friends and family, but somehow the boss got an earful of my "beautiful" satire and didn't even fire me. Not for a couple of weeks.

I found out much later that my last name is German for "liver." Weird, eh?

Dr. Knobs at Tassajara Creek
Also in 1978 I was fortunate enough to meet and snare a fellow Radio Activist, Dr. Knobs, at Pacifica station KPFK in Los Angeles.

While Dr. Knobs tends to go mute in the presence of a microphone, he has a brilliant, incisive satirical wit.

Dr. Knobs is responsible for at least half of Chopped Liver's good jokes ... and all of the bad ones. He also contributes his considerable technical expertise to Chopped Liver projects.

Our Hero
Almost a decade later, when Oliver North was getting lots of air time in the Congressional hearings on Contragate, Chopped Liver roared back to life with a ditty, "Ode to Ollie," which got lots of air time during radio coverage of the hearings.

Which got me a regular weekly gig at KPFA in Berkeley – writing, performing and recording a satirical feature almost single-handedly every week. It was a chore and I loved it dearly. I got to meet a lot of wonderful folks, and even was lucky enough to engineer for the legendary Mama O'Shea.

We've won AWARDS!

• A GOLDEN REEL for "Living in a Satirical World"
• SILVER REELS for "Welcome to the 90's" and "That Was the War That Was"
• Another GOLDEN REEL for a radio documentary about Mumia Abu-Jamal for Alternative Radio
• Honorable Mentions too!

Chopped Liver Productions has been featured on National Public Radio, Pacifica Radio, ‘The House of Blues,’ and independent community and talk radio stations from Tampa to Juneau. All titles are still available and are NOW on compact disc -- Chopped Liver has gone digital!
