An Open Letter to Darryl Cherney

Darryl:

Up until now I have kept quiet about your hysterical reactions to the new disclosures about the the 1990 bombing of you and Judi Bari. I'm writing now because you have indicated (at least to Jim Martin) that you are interested in some of the evidence we have to back up these new disclosures. I have no idea if you are sincere but if there is any glimmer of hope that we can be working together to get an investigation going in Mendocino county I'm sure willing to give it a try. We're not getting anywhere with silly name calling and in fighting.

You can keep it up if you want but I'm going to assume you really do want to take the high road in our future interactions. Here are my questions to you:

First of all, why are you refusing to come on any public venue with those who see things differently than you? If you feel sure of your truth then what possible harm can come from discussing the situation openly?? You need to know that I (and others who are involved) are willing to meet openly, on radio or in private to see how we can get back on track to solving this case.

Secondly, how dare you assume what the motivations of others are?? How can you possibly know what is in my or others heart? I read the transcript of your May 26 interview with Estelle Fennel on KMUD and you rattled off all these different motivations attributed to those of us who had signed the petition to Norm Vroman. None of them made any objective sense but instead of discussing the issue on its merits you attributed bad motivations to others. Only you know what is in your heart Darryl and we know what is in ours. This is not the first time that you have attacked the personalities instead of dealing with the facts. That is a tactic that gets us nowhere and ultimately reflects back on you!!

And finally, why did you say on this same program, that you had talked to Kris Welch (when you hadn't) and then misrepresent her position? As you know, that conversation never happened and your allegation is easily refutable.

My motivation in this is quite simple. I want to get an answer as to who did the bombing and why. I have been working with others who also want that. You say that you want that also. If you are sincere then we need to all be pulling in the same direction even if we don't all see eye to eye on everything. You have spent the past few months trashing many of us who have given up alot of time and energy on this subject. It's about time to stop the junior high antics and get serious about solving this crime. I don't have to like you to work with you and right now I don't like you very much because much of what you have said about me and others in hurtful and untrue.

Why don't we instead show that we can cooperate in the hopes of achieving a common goal? I'm sure willing to give it a try and in fact will continue to work toward this goal with or without you. Imagine what we might accomplish if we really committed to working together!! Since we all have the same alleged goal (to get a real investigation) why not knock off the bullshit and work to pursue ALL the leads and theories that have come forth in the past decade?
