IRV SUTLEY SPEAKS

To: Beth Bosk, New Settler Interview:
With regard to the Darryl Cherney
piece (Feb. - March '96), I once again deny and deeply resent the accusations
by Cherney (and Judith B. Bari) accusing me of being any sort of F.B.I. agent
or police informant. I have spent the past 37 years as a social justice activist
primarily in the areas of racial civil rights, electoral civil rights, and of
course the California Peace and Freedom Party since its inception in 1967. The
smear that I would in any way act as an agent of/ or informant for any local,
state or federal law enforcement agency is particularly offensive.
For almost five years I have offered
to meet with Judith Bari and Darryl Cherney--either personally or by representation-in
a professionly mediated session, so we can begin to sort out whatever misunderstandings
have led to these erroneous conclusions and charges. Bari and Cherney have consistently
refused to engage in any kind of mediation or process.
In December of 1994 at my own expense,
I underwent a polygraph examination in order to put these charges behind me.
The results showed that I have never acted as any kind of police informant.
The continuing Bari/Cherney accusations have unfairly (dare I say maliciously)
interfered with my life, my time, my energy and damaged my reputation with some
people who know me only slightly or not at all.
In spite of this I continue to remain
willing to engage in mediation. Additionally, I remain willilng to undergo further
polygraph examinations or voice stress analyser tests. I am also willing to
go on the record with any journalist in order to answer the Bari/Cherney charges
or community concerns. The question now before us is WHY Bari/Cherney refuse
to resolve these issues in a principled way.
If there is anyone who would like
to talk to me about this I can be reached at (707) 431-0657 or (707) 874-2248
or by mail at P.O. Box 174, Glen Ellen, Ca. 95442.
Sincerely, Irv Sutley
