Who
are the Real Enemies of Judi Bari??

My first reaction to Mike Sweeney's
new website about Judi Bari's "enemies" was to laugh at how silly and childish
it was. Instead of engaging in a real dialogue about the facts of this decade
old unsolved bombing case his only response is a desparate attempt to marginalize
and discredit those who are calling for an independent investigation. This is
a pretty transparent ploy and frankly it's getting a little old. Then I realized
that alot of people have not been paying close attention to the new information
that has been coming out and I feel it is necessary to make the following points:
- Mike and his enablers have been
threatening to bring a lawsuit against any media outlet that has shown the
slightest interest in getting to the truth about this case. They have called
and/or written to KZYX, KMUD, KPFA, KSRO, the S.F. Examiner, the Press Democrat,
the Ukiah Daily Journal, Chico State Environmental Club, Arcata, Sacramento
and Oakland bookstores--and those are just the ones we know about. Some have
been intimidated and fortunately some haven't. We know this has happened because
we have the feedback from those threatened and in some cases we have the letters--both
from Mike and from his lawyer dad in Santa Barbara. All discussion has been
thwarted.
- Mike won't sue because if he did,
all his history would be held up to public scrutiny and he knows it. Whether
he placed the bomb in Judi's car or not, there is enough in Mike's past (Sonoma
County airport fire, spousal abuse in both Sonoma & Mendocino counties,
restraining order from the wife before Judi to name just some). With the latest
revelation about him being the author of the LORD AVENGERS LETTER his only
defense is to try and discredit those who have this information. I must admit
that it is scary to be one of those people and I have told my family and friends
that if any attempt is made to hurt or kill me they should look to Mike first.
Sounds kinda dramatic but it's true.
- Anyone with an open mind will
look at all sides of a dispute including new information. It is not a matter
of Timber/F.B.I. vs. the ex husband. With all that has come to light about
Mike's past it could very well turn out to be both in one package. The bombing
came just before Redwood Summer was to begin and also just before Judi was
planning to leave the property she shared with Mike. Anyone who says there
was no motive is just not paying attention.
- For me the big lesson in all of
this has been the lack of critical thinking by those who would rather see
someone as an icon instead of seeing them as a human being with strengths
and weaknesses just like everyone else. To accept one version of this case
without looking at other theories or to demonize those who are trying to get
to the truth borders on cult worship. It is dangerous and also unfair to those
who are iconized as no one can live up to sainthood. Unfortunately It's not
the first time that it has happened on the left.
- It seems to me that the real "enemies"
of Judi Bari are those who would try to stop an independent investigation
of this case for their own financial gain or to perpetuate a false history
of it for egos sake. Pay attention!!
