NOBODY'S BODY BUT MINE

by Beth Grimes

NOBODY WANTS A GENDER WAR

Picture a world in which little boys are taught that it's OK for them to cry when they're hurt, to show affection to people they love, to play with girls when they wish. In this world, boys would not be trained to take risks, to be always "brave" and competitive.Their parents would hug them as often as they hug their little girls.

Picture a world in which little girls are taught that it's OK for them to climb trees, run and jump, pick up frogs and bugs and play ball with the boys when they wish. In this world, girls would not be trained to be always "nice" and think constantly about being pretty. Their parents would encourage them to be as strong and competent as little boys.

In this world men and women would share responsibility for parenting and for supporting their children.

In this world, there will be equal numbers of men and women in the ranks of political and business leaders. And men and women will have access to the same kinds of education and job opportunites and be paid according to their ability, not according to their sex.

Won't this be a wonderful world?
