NUKE NOTES
by Tori Woodard
"A Letter from God to Mankind About the
Ward Valley Nuclear Waste Dump"
Soulless men, automatons
Wish to dump hot filth
On my oldest sentinel.
On my august and revered elder statesman,
Wise and venerable, peaceful and enduring
On my Tortoise, Grand Master of my desert.
Ye who believe only man and his kind have
Favor and a place in my universe
Take Heed. Hark me, and do so well
You counsel each other
And use your mathematics to measure risk
To my crown jewel. My river of the desert
Sparkling ribbon of life. priceless beyond measure
Beyond your meager comprehension in importance
In my scheme of creation.
Yet you would assign risk
Glibly, in your venal, arrogant, stupid, childish hubris
Would dare speak of "acceptable risk", to this
My everlasting, priceless, and necessary gift to you
Your Water
Your Life
The very substance of your being
And that of your brother and sister creatures
Only so little of the water on your Earth is fresh
And this mighty torrent, this bounty, this
Amazing munificent, wondrous desert champion of
My rivers. This same one - you would put at risk
How dare you, and for shame.
For not only in your day, little worms,
Do you dabble with disaster...
You would bring despoliation and ruin
For time so long it is beyond the capacity of
Your instruments to measure, or your minds to even grasp.
It is not beyond mine.
I cleave mountains to valley,
Ocean to desert
Forest to plain
Low to high
And aqueous to dry
All within such times.
Yet your legacy would leave
Death and the taint of your wrong doing
Forever after your insignificant passing.
Heed me. I am the Lord thy God,
And I command you from this day forth
To love and respect my Creation
To honor and love yourselves and all that I have made you.
To achieve your potential by loving and living in Oneness
With this Earth home I have given you to dwell in
In Wonder and Respect
In Awe and Reverence.
Sustain me and I will you sustain
In the Circle of Life,
For generations evermore.
Heed me well !
I am the Lord, Thy God and Creator
Great Spirit, and Holder of the Sacred Mystery of your Being.
